“Texolux” is our new name & purpose…

Well, not everything changed — only the name is new — our purpose is exactly the same as before!

2025 = New Year, New Name, Same Purpose.

It all started back in 2018 as “Cameras+Films” when I started posting about my passion for vintage cameras, film and instant photography. I tested new and old cameras, shot new and expired films, developed film I found in the cameras and kit we bought at auctions, sold some of the vintage cameras on eBay, etc.

In 2020, as the pandemic began, and Polaroid Spectra film was discontinued (much to my dismay), I came up with an idea to evolve beyond eBay and launch a branded online store. The concept was to sell cameras, films, photo accessories, and ephemera, with a focus on film formats which could bring old cameras back-to-life. A great idea, but life, kids, pandemic, and other stuff got in the way and the shop never launched…

Along the way, I made many friends around the world, including photographers, artists, engineers, fans, and fanatics. A few became friends, and one in particular became a BFF, with whom I collaborated on supplying and marketing his Big Stax modified cameras. That same BFF ultimately proposed that we go in as partners and buy a shop in Spain with a couple of other guys. 2024 ended up being a magical year as we bought, renovated, and re-launched a brick-and-mortar shop in the El Born district of Barcelona!

After the launch and making many new friends in Catalunya, the realities of running a physical shop in Europe from my Connecticut USA home base — despite having three amazing partners — proved daunting. So we agreed that they would keep the physical shop, the name “Cameras And Films” and we would continue as friends and ongoing collaborators. Voila!

After the changes, to avoid confusion between ES and US entities, I needed to quickly switch to a new name! Luckily, I had TEXOLUX as a backup, registered, and ready to go! From the Latin word roots “TEXO” for “build” or “make” and “LUX” for “light” the new name could be a beautiful, indirect reference to photography and anything else “made of light”…

And thus, TEXOLUX was born…
