When I saw the Kraft Velveeta Mac & Cheese promotional 110-format film camera in an auction lot, I had to have it! Of course, I had low expectations — the Velveeta-cam was obviously plastic, cheap, and cheesy — but I wanted to shoot at least one roll of film in it.
As it turned out, I won the auction lot that included the Cheese-Cam and I waited eagerly (with a bemused smirk) for its arrival…

After the Cheese-Cam arrived, along with all other items in the auction lot, I unwrapped it and laughed out loud. It came with a manual of sorts (shown in videos below), which was almost easier to understand than IKEA assembly instructions. The Velveeta Shells & Cheese Dinner camera operated quite simply:
- Open the back to load film; drop in film cartridge
- Rotate the film advance gear with your thumb
- Click the red shutter release button
- Repeat until roll is done.
So, I dropped in a roll of Lomography Orca black-and-white 110 cartridge film, ran around my house and yard, rotated the film advance, and clicked the shutter release until the roll was done. Sent it off to my favorite 110 film lab, and waited for the results, smiling every time I thought about it…
How’d it turn out? Well, the Cheese-Cam is not a “world-class” camera, but it did the job, As I’ve found with all similar cheap cameras with plastic lenses, it did OK as long as I attempted to make a good photograph, and understood the limitations of the camera.
In the end, the results were pretty good, and I had fun shooting with the Kraft Velveeta Cheese-Cam! My test photo results are below…
